Helen and Angel’s engagement photos at the Art Institute of Chicago felt calm, natural, and deeply connected from the moment we started. Instead of rushing through popular areas, we focused on one spot that always gives me something special, the spiral staircase. The clean lines, soft shadows, and quiet movement of the space created a setting where they could simply be themselves.
They didn’t try to perform for the camera. They stayed close, laughed easily, and trusted each other. Because of that, every frame felt honest. I guided lightly when needed, but most of the magic came from how comfortable they were together.
The Art Institute remains one of my go-to Chicago engagement locations, especially when couples want something timeless without feeling overly staged. That said, it’s important to understand the rules. Interior photography is restricted in certain areas, and permits or coordination may be required depending on the day and setup. I always help couples plan around these details so the session stays relaxed and seamless.
Helen and Angel reminded me that when the space is right and the connection is real, engagement photos don’t need to be complicated. Click here for the permit form.
